Our Spirit in Action

When the spirit of SERVICE & SECURITY is put into action, the mountains of poverty, inequality, and injustice can be moved. A plan, an orchestrated motion, can make the difference between millions of wasted dollars or an effective and longlasting positive change in an affected area.

Khalsa Peace Corps has the structure. It has the base. It has the foundation to put the Spirit of Service & Security into Action. With a growing collective of professionals, certified volunteers, healthcare workers and social workers, KPC is an organization that is dedicated to the work that is needed to make a pivotal difference in our local, state, national and international communities.

A Mission of Selfless Service

Service is an important duty for all global citizens. Service improves community, it activates compassion and it bridges the gaps in society. Service can change an entire nation. Khalsa Peace Corps is dedicated to the mission of SERVICE.

When service becomes common practice, security follows. Security for all levels of society, rich to poor. Security means that no one is lacking, and no one needs to reach for another's home, meal, or well-being.

The Inspiration Behind KPC

Khalsa Peace Corps (KPC) was founded in 2009. The founders were inspired by their belief that a full spiritual experience requires one to transform their higher conscience into action.  Thus the role of Khalsa Peace Corps is to be a platform that transforms ones’ higher conscience into daily actions of service and sharing.

Back in 2008 when the founders became inspired to form this organization, humanitarian aid relief camps in Sudan were being closed because no country including the U.S. and U.N. was willing to provide security to aid workers and relief volunteers for political reasons. Many aid workers were killed, the refugees were left to fend for themselves, and many men, women, and children died from starvation and oppression.

Around the same time, the founders visited the Golden Temple, the spiritual center of the Sikh community in Amritsar, India. They come from a multi-faith background, i.e. Sikh and Christian, and during this visit, the legend of Khalsa called to their consciousness. This is because the architecture of the Golden Temple has four doors to welcome people from all faiths to come together in prayer and in service of a community meal called Langer. An inspired community of all faiths grew from this lifestyle of service and the legend of Khalsa was born. Khalsa included the Saint Soldiers who laid down their lives for the human rights of all in their battles with oppressive forces of the time. They represented humanity and served humanity irrespective of nationality, religion and culture. Khalsa means ‘Pure’ implying people whose spirit has become pure, devoid of ego, and were called ‘Khalsa’ by well-known spiritual saints like Kabir and Sikh Gurus.

A Peace Corps is generally representative of a national government and/or international organizations that is bound by the politics of such government. The Politics of the Sudan conflict did not allow any government to support their Peace Corps. Also, Peace Corps lose their neutrality in conflict zones, because of the politics of their respective governments. The founders wanted to establish a Peace Corps that will not be bound by politics of any nation, religion, culture, race, or creed. They wanted an open platform for all ages, and faiths, with a simple motivation of service to all. The Khalsa Heritage Gallery and Hall is designed to inspire this service to humanity.
